Post-Pandemic Changes in the Online Education Sector in India

In pandemic scenarios, online learning platforms are gaining importance. Through such an innovation portal, millions of students in India will find comfort in learning.

Many businesses have undergone financial losses due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. At the same time, the pandemic has opened up many opportunities for us. Businesses have adopted digitalization to survive. On the other hand, many non-profit organizations also have adopted many changes. For example, you can find many changes in the education sector after the pandemic.

Due to the lockdown, schools and colleges have remained closed for the last few months. However, students find some relief due to the growth of the edtech sector in India. The government of India (GOI) plans to launch a technology portal to support the edtech sector.

Edtech Sector in India before Lockdown

According to industry experts, the edtech sector in India will grow immensely in the next ten years. The overall size of the industry in India will be around $10 trillion. Before lockdown, the edtech sector was promising. But, the Covid-19 pandemic has brought disruptions in various industries. Thus, the edtech sector has found an opportunity to grow quickly.

According to TRAI, the growth of internet subscribers was 3.35% from June to September of 2019. Since the beginning of 2020, the TRAI has noted a surge in internet subscribers. The surge happened due to the lockdown. Students who cannot visit schools physically can continue their education on smartphone devices.

Edtech Sector in India after Lockdown

The pandemic has disrupted conventional primary and higher education in India. Schools and colleges have remained closed for more than a year now. Apart from Kerala and Bihar, other states cannot organize the board examinations for the students. In such a dire scenario, the innovation portal of the edtech industry has kept the hopes for the Indian education sector alive.

Students must get accustomed to online learning for the next one to two years. The pandemic is not over yet. New mutating strains of the virus are now big concerns for the world. The vaccination process in India will also be time-consuming due to the huge population of the country. In such a scenario, online learning is the best way of learning.

The Initiatives of Government of India (GOI)

The government of India has taken many initiatives to support the online education sector. The policymakers have launched SWAYAM, an online learning portal for the students. However, there are three things that GOI has to address.

  • Quality: Online education portal should offer quality education. Thus, there should be a standardization of the quality.
  • Accessibility: Infrastructural growth is essential to increase accessibility. GOI should aim to fetch more students in the online learning sector.
  • Equity: Fund is the most important thing for the growth of a sector. The government of India should have a clear policy to bring more investors.
The science-related line ministries have launched DIKSHA to encourage teachers in India. Through this platform, teachers and students can communicate. Teachers can offer online education to students through such platforms.

India is a technology storehouse, and thus innovative applications and platforms are emerging nowadays to support the online education industry. Recently, GOI has also launched an application called National Test Abhyas. Students can prepare for the NEET and JEE-Main through this AI-integrated application.
